Armor made from CDs!

Here’s a unique use for all those AOL CDs: armor!

CD Armor

Tom over at Pixelated Images took this pic at Anime Central 2007. I love the fish-scale look of the CDs, especially on the swords and shields.

Unfortunately he didn’t get any additional info on it (creators, number/source of CDs etc.) but he did get pictures of several other equally extreme costumes.

Map of online communities according to xkcd

Partial online community mapxkcd has posted an amusing and interestingly representative map of online communities. Make sure you click through to the large version, otherwise you won’t be able to see Google’s volcano fortress. It’s a shame there isn’t an even larger version as there are still some things I can’t make out.

Update: Steve (who has a really cool blog) points out that a 24″ x 25″ print of this map can be pre-ordered from the XKCD store. Thanks for pointing that out Steve!

Top 50 Local TV Commercials

The Phat Phree has compiled an impressive list of the Top 50 Local TV Commercials. These are the low budget, lower talent commercials for mom-and-pop businesses and small chains that your local television channel features late at night.

The compilation is quite impressive although the top five are all for the same business. They’re funny, but I don’t think they deserved to get all five places.

Here are a couple of my favorites.

Jhoon Rhee Taekwondo

This is really part commercial, part sing-along.

The Des Moines Renaissance Faire

I bet the announcer came with the venue.

Eagle Insurance

Just wrong.

For more of these gems including discount food, talking tamales and a number of the worst raps ever check out the whole list.

Thanks to Kirsten for pointing this out to me.

The Funny Music Project

The FumpLike funny music, novelty songs and parodies? Check out The FuMP, The Funny Music Project. They post a new, hilarious song every few days and to catch up you can check out their archives.

I heard of this site from the CNET Buzz Out Loud podcast who mentioned the song Dead Nintendo by Possible Oscar on yesterdays podcast. I think my current favorite would have to be She’s Underage by Seamonkey.

If you want to get their picks as they come out you can even use their rss feed with the software of your choice. It’s like a little taste of Dr. Demento every few days.

Death of a supercar

Oops! The rare Enzo Ferrari just got a little more rare. In this video actor Eddie Griffin has some technical difficulties making a turn and powders a million dollar car into a Jersey barrier.

If you look closely you can see that the wheels are actually turned, but for some reason just not gripping. I can only guess there may have been something on the track. Poor Enzo.
