Well, the Summer Olympics ended last weekend and now I remember why they only happen every 4 years. It’s been fun to watch some of the worlds best compete and break records, but after more than two weeks of it I’ve had enough.

Not to miss a beat, The Onion reported last week “Michael Phelps Returns To His Tank At Sea World“.

ORLANDO—Fourteen-time Olympic gold medalist and SeaWorld main attraction Michael Phelps returned to his seven-million-gallon water tank Wednesday to resume his normal schedule of performing in six shows a day for marine park crowds every day of the week.

Shakespearean Pie

OK, I’m not a big literature or theater geek (but I make up for it in other geek areas) but when this song came over the feed from The FuMP I just about fell out of my chair laughing!

The song is a simply brilliant spoof on Shakespeare to the tune of Don McLean’s masterwork American Pie by the hilarious Robert Lund.

The lyrics are hilarious and wonderfully crafted. Here’s just a taste:

“So to be, or to choose not to be
That’s the question I’m digentin’ in my soliloquy
And when fortune aims it’s slings and arrows at me

I’ve written about it before, but it’s that time of year and I know some of you are wondering exactly how many bails of hay should be placed out for the reindeer (8) or what type of brace to use to secure the angel to the tree (Simpson H7), so here’s the gratuitously detailed PDF for holiday decoration.

All the info is there: tolerances, clearances, capacities, material specifications and more. There are even helpful notes like “Use of alcoholic beverages may increase overall merriment but should not be consumed until tree is installed and electrical items plugged in.”

It’s almost November, and that means it’s time to start thinking about holiday shopping! OK, I know holiday shopping can be stressful and I think it’s nothing short of stupid how people swarm to the mall on the day after Thanksgiving, but it should be fun and shopping online definitely helps!

I find myself on the road again with another example of something you don’t really want to hear when you’re boarding an aircraft:

From a pilot clearly hurrying out of the plane: “Excuse me, I need to make sure this thing will fly.”

On a personal note, Carla’s vacation came in at #5, but somehow the anime convention didn’t make the list (sorry Tom.)

Top 50 Local TV Commercials

The Phat Phree has compiled an impressive list of the Top 50 Local TV Commercials. These are the low budget, lower talent commercials for mom-and-pop businesses and small chains that your local television channel features late at night.

The compilation is quite impressive although the top five are all for the same business. They’re funny, but I don’t think they deserved to get all five places.

Here are a couple of my favorites.
