My Cubicle – Song Lyrics

Cube FarmAt the request of a reader I have written up the lyrics (as best I can) to the cubicle song parody of James Blunt’s song “You’re Beautiful”.

Listen to the song (complements of MorningSidekick.com).

“My Cubicle”
Lyrics by: Morning Sidekick
Performed by: Jym Britton
Parody on “You’re Beautiful” by James Blunt

My job is stupid my day’s a bore,
Inside this office from eight to four
Nothin’ ever happens my life is pretty bland,
Pretending that I’m working, pray I don’t get canned.

My Cubicle, My cubicle
It’s One of Sixty two
It’s my small space in a crowded place
Just a six-by-six foot booth
And I hate it that’s the truth

Well, I give a sigh as the boss walks by,
no one ever talks to me or looks me in the eye.
And I really should work but instead I just sit here and surf the Internet.

In My Cubicle, My cubicle
It doesn’t have a view.
It’s my small space in a crowded place
I sit in solitude.
And sometimes I sit here nude.

  1. hahaha! thats cool man, i wonder if i can post your lyrics on my site? im still workin on it but most files are already up

  2. the writer of this song is Matt Wall. I may have spelt his name wrong as I have only heard it.

  3. Jaja,

I can’t say that I even own the rights to post the lyrics here as this song is quite likely someones copyrighted material. That having been said I offer the lyrics here in the hope that it will enhance people’s enjoyment of the song and that the owner will understand and support that.

So, I can’t give you permission to reproduce something that’s not mine, but I wouldn’t stop you.

The incomming search terms are part of the bsuite WordPress plugin. It’s wordpress exclusive but if you have some PHP skills you might be able to get an idea how Casey wrote it and modify it for your site.

    Good luck with the site.

  4. Thanks Monica! I’ve updated the post. I’m sure if it’s spelled wrong someone will yell sooner or later.

    Jon

I thought I am the only one! haiz anyway I found a new job leh.. all the best to you!

  8. The “My Cubicle” song parody was not written by Matt Wall, whoever he is. It comes from a radio comedy service called Morning Sidekick.

  9. Keith,

Thanks for the info. Matt Wahl also contacted me recently to let me know he didn’t write the song, although he has written about cube life before (which is probably where the confusion comes from.)

Is there anyone specific at Morning Sidekick who should be credited with this? It’s a great parody and I’m glad to finally give credit where credit is due!

  10. Oh Man, this is simply hilarious… I was laughing my heads out today when I received it via email.

And in some way its so true!! Not the *nude* part though.. 🙂
    Good Job!

  11. this one was really really funny i am going to send this to my friends they might deleted it but i will tell them not

  12. Its so funny, it has reached the shores of Singapore and I’m sending it to a few groups of people… HAHaha…I hope there’ll be a MTV or PV or music video of it!

  13. I’m sure this is old news but just so everyone knows… the lyrics are a
    6 by 6 FOOT booth
and second line from the end is
    I sit in SOLITUDE
I sang the song the song and thought it might be important to some of you’se. Thanks for the interest, it’s one of my favorites. I’m not the talented one who wrote it, but I’ll take credit for singing it. Thanks for sure

  14. Jym,

Thanks for the corrections. Someone had commented on my other article that they thought you had performed this and I was waiting for some confirmation on that.

You did a great job on the vocals, especially emulating the style of the original!

  15. Jym,
My friends and I love all the way from Malaysia! It echoes our sentiments exactly!

  16. that is the stupides thing i have ever EVER heard. i can’t possibly believe that anyone under 65 would think that’s remotely funny.

  17. I’m guessing you don’t work in an office and probably didn’t enjoy the movie Office Space either.

Still, everyone’s entitled to their opinion. I’m hoping the other 20,583 folks who have come to this story already enjoyed it a bit more. I know I did.

  18. That’s right. I am entitled to my opinion. I loved Office Space (it was original, not a lame knock-off of an already terrible song), and I do work in an office.

I guess that means my sense of humor is just BETTER than the 20,583 other folks! 😉

  19. uh… er… mmmmmm… wow

on a positive note, thanks to Eileen. Who’da thunk all the way to Malaysia. My wife was just in Jakarta at the Java Jazz Fest. She liked it very much. Brought me back some Palm tree sugar. It’s very tasty.

  20. NICE ONE JYM,BUT I DON,T KNOW WHAT YOU,RE COMPLAINING ABOUT.MY CUBICLE IS ONLY THREE FOOT BY SIX FOOT.AT LEAST MY CUBICLE HAS TOILET FACILITIES.

  21. I’ve been searching for how to make a lyrics blog with WP 2.0 . and i found this blog. Can anyone suggest how to make a nice to navigate blog for song lyrics ? I can’t find any themes or plughins for lyrics category. Anyone please help me ?

  22. Learner,

I wouldn’t recommend WordPress (or any other blog software) for a song lyrics site. The organization is all wrong. Blogs organize content by time and category, but everything sorts in reverse cronological order.

Lyrics on the other hand you want to organize by artist and song title. You might also want to have a blog to announce new additions and/or featured songs, but I don’t think you want a blog for your content management.

You might consider Mambo content management system. I haven’t used it but it seems to be the best-of-breed free CMS.

    Hope this helps!

    > So is this song copyrighted, or is it public domain? Just wondering…

The song, as a parody, is intellectual property of Morning Sidekick. As such it is not public domain.

The folks at Morning Sidekick have been very cool about me posting the song and even the lyrics for everyone’s enjoyment, but I have also made a considerable effort to give them proper credit.

Morning Sidekick was (and I believe still is) giving this song away on their site with no expressed usage policy. If you’re going to use it for personal enjoyment I’d say go for it. Just make sure they get proper credit.

If you are interested in using the song for broadcast or profit I would strongly recommend contacting the folks at Morning Sidekick for permission (their email is on their site.) They don’t bite, unless bitten first.

Enjoy the song, but respect the writer and performers. Remember, it took time/effort/talent/money to make this happen.

  24. There’re so many people I want to seriously sing for

    MY MAILMAN
    Oh! My mailman, my mailman
    He doesn’t have a car.
He’s seen on the sidewalk with a heavy bag
    He walks in solitude.
In 100 degree heat of the summer.

    THE DAY LABORERS
Oh! The day laborers, the day laborers
    They don’t have no cubicle.
They’re seen waiting in front of Home Depot
    They stand in solitude.
In 100 degree heat of the summer.

    THE CAL TRANS WORKERS
Oh! The Cal Trans workers, the Cal Trans workers
They don’t sit in no cubicle.
They’re seen in the dust of California Highways
    They work in solitude.
In 100 degree heat of the summer.

  25. This is the most messed up thing I heard all day. I love it it is me all the way except for the nude part.

  26. Hey Jon,

Wanted to say thanks for the post and working to make everything “accurate.” I check in once in a while just to look at the Story pulse and to read the comments. What a gas! So… do you know French? Have you noticed all the home-made videos out there with the “My Cubicle” track as the theme? They are a real neat representation of creativity out there. Anyway, Thanks again… I think I’ll go grab a cuppa Jo.

    Jym

  27. It has reached the shores of Australia and was played this morning by a local station during my commute to work. Brilliant!!

  28. lot of laughs……..:) great parody……. from the replies it appears that “cubicles” have gone international……frightening

  29. Jym,

I’m afraid I don’t speak French, but I have noticed some funny videos
with this song. The first time I heard the song I knew it was just a
matter of time until someone made a video.

I’m a musician myself (mostly guitar, but a bit of just about
everything else) so I feel it’s very important to give proper credit,
especially on such a good job.

    Jon

  30. Jym,

Somewhere I have a recording of me doing some classical and celtic songs. I recorded them for a hard drive recording class. I’m not sure if I’m ready to share. I’ll think about it.

I really wish I had a recording of some of the piano stuff I wrote, but maybe I’ll get back to all that sometime.

  31. This que song was emailed to me and it’s hella funny! it’s a cool little song, has a nice hook!…….lol………good job!
