Tripti,

Most of the Banner documentation is only available to clients through SunGard Higher Education's UDC support site. Employees of Banner institutions should be able to obtain a login, but if you're contracting with an institution that may be different.

There is a strong and consistent demand for folks who know Banner, but since it is used primarily in higher education the jobs are often in odd locations rather than being centered around major metropolitan areas.

Good luck.

Hi,
are you still working with Banner? My client is using Banner system and i really don't have much idea on this. Maybe you can point me to some docs, and URL's that may enhance my understanding on Banner and improve my skills. By the way I'm an Oracle DBA/Developer.

Was there a great job demand for banner System? Thanks.

Alaa,

First, in the interest of full disclosure, I currently work for SunGard Higher Education, the makers of Banner. I was not working for them when I wrote this article, but I am now.

Yes, you can use your knowledge to change or extend the functionality of Banner. SGHE even offers a course which will teach you how to develop forms and functions in a way which will be compatible with the existing environment.

I would warn you, as I do all clients who ask about modifications, that anything you develop will require extensive testing and possible future modification, so it's best to keep modifications to a minimum.

If you're interested in the course offerings you should talk to your Banner account manager or project manager. We have some outstanding trainers and the courses are really invaluable. If you learn well from books and have the time you can learn everything you need to from the docs, but a couple classes could save you months of discovery.

To the best of my knowledge the Banner finance module was written entirely for Banner.

Hope this helps.
