When I set up new Sun servers, the first thing I do is upgrade the ALOM to a version that supports ssh instead of telnet and enable it.

[...] I’ll second Jon’s assessment that Sun really should put some reasonable cable adapters in the box, as the the bundle of adapters necessary to make a null modem connection to the box is ridiculously out of scale (I’ll get a picture soon). [...]

It's taken longer than expected, but I hope to have numbers posted tomorrow, and yes, the machine has done very well.

Sorry about the delay.

Good point Armand. I'm sure a 10K RPM drive would take a couple hours off the battery life of any laptop.

Of course it may add some gyroscopic stability to it.

Just a note on the hard drives. Just because they are small form factor doesn't make them laptop HDs.

Specs for T2000 hard disks from www.sun.com: "Up to four 73 GB 2.5" 10K rpm SAS disks, providing a maximum capacity of 292 GB. The onboard controller disk controller supports Hardware RAID (0+1) confiurations."

I don't know about you, but that'll smoke the drives in any laptop I've ever heard of.
